A Modest Proposal
Hello. I live in Los Angeles, Ca. And I am unafraid. However, I am cautious and concerned about my future, because, unfortunately, my future is inextricably tied to yours.
Yes. Yours.
I don’t live in this world alone; or in this society, although I feel as if I do. Truth is, we are social animals who require interaction with one another as part of our growth and equilibrium. Yet, we stand stunted and off-balance.
But I digress.
Today I want to address our current state of economic turmoil and present what I think is a simple solution to it all. Yes. I said, a SIMPLE SOLUTION.
You can skip to the bottom to read it now, if you’re THAT impatient, but I hoped you might also enjoy the analysis and development of the idea. Because I can teach you how to figure things out for yourself in a way that can guide your perceptions along a path of truth and reality.
But only if you’re interested.
By the way.
I think we are doomed.
By our own volition. Our own stupidity.
People in the U.S. are so BRAINWASHED. By tv/media/technology! By religion! By sex/porn! The Hip-Hop nation is leaping itself off a cliff.
(No… it’s not JUST Americans. It’s ALL stupid people. But, being American, as I am, I feel I can and should, address my own.)
We are living in a period of rapid change on many fronts. I like change. If it is a change for the better. Often it is not.
But it can be.
Hm. Should I tell you HOW first? Or should I explain WHY?
Well, like a good dramatist I think I should prolong the “suspense” and address the core issue of WHY.
“Why” is a word we simply do not use enough in our everyday lives, when, in truth, that is the most important question of all. It is the truth and the light through the darkness.
Why?
Why do you care?
Do you care?
I assume if you’re reading these words then perhaps you do. Good. That’s a good thing. To care.
WHY do you care?
Is it due to fear? Good. Be afraid. Be very afraid — of what is to come — if we don’t all begin to care. About ourselves. About each other.
But I’m pessimistic. I think the average American is an uncaring, apathetic (same thing) fool. Arrogantly ignorant of all they survey. Full of hubris and selfishness. Maybe that’s because I’ve lived in L.A. too long. But L.A. is full of people from everywhere.
Oh, god. We’re doomed.
Or are we?
Can we save ourselves at the last minute like it happens on tv on in movies?
Likely not. It may may be every person for him/her self. Unity. What a concept, eh?
But I digress.
Here’s the deal, ladies and gentlemen. Our problem is simple: We don’t know the difference between Right and Wrong! True dat.
Our parents don’t teach us and neither do our schools. Our friends don’t know either and neither do our churches.
That which is Right is true and real. That which is Wrong is false and fake (like so many of us).
Let me simplify further.
Right/Wrong, True/False, Real/Fake. If you can’t tell the difference between the two you have been mis-and under- educated.
Everything I ever needed to know about life I learned in kindergarten. (I learned a lot in HeadStart too.) And that is for real. I learned to be polite and courteous to others; to play fair and share my toys; to respect my elders; to take turns; to say, “Please” and “Thank you” and even “I’m sorry” when I meant it; and to work together with others as well as alone. To tell the truth, didn’t we all learn those things?
Oh. You didn’t?
So what happened? Where did it all go?
As I studied more I learned more. I learned the simple, basic facts of life were full of complexity but could be understood because the rules are simple ones. But societies and their rulers made it all needlessly complicated and intricate. I guess one such guy was Machiavelli. I’m sure you’ve heard of him. They do this to confuse and thereby control us (the exact thing that is occurring today).
I have a science background. I believe in the scientific method. You should too. It is only basic math. And basic math is all you need to figure out the world (and life itself).
1 + 1 = 2. Always and forever. Try this: If A = B and if B = C, then A = C! Simple, basic truth and logic.
That understanding led me to a simple but profound philosophical tenet known as “Occam’s Razor,” which states, the simplest answer is often is the best and correct one (also called the Law of Economy). It works for me. It works for others too, because it works.
Therefore, when confronted with dilemmas and problems, all things being roughly equal, the simplest solution is usually the best one.
To determine the simplest solution means determining/knowing what’s right and what’s wrong and then acting accordingly.
THAT is our problem.
Either we don’t KNOW the difference or, worse, we don’t CARE.
(Do you care? WHY do you care?)
And as long as that remains true it will only lead to our mass extermination.
(It was the Jews in Germany. It will be blacks in America — THEN the educated and the poor. That is how fascism works. It eliminates dissent by eliminating the dissenters. It turns family and friends upon one another. Remember Communist China under Mao; the Soviet Union under Stalin, the Weimar Republic under Hitler? Etc. No. You probably don’t.
But you will.
And soon.
Okay. Okay. Okay. Enough beating the bushes. Here’s what I promised you from the beginning. The simple solution to our current doldrums with Wall Street and its lackeys, the plutocrats (politicians).
Here’s how I see it: Those bitches are all about profits. PROFITS. It is their lifeblood. It is one of the two things they live for: Money and Power (to make more money).
Oh, and speaking of math… if you want to find the source of the evil we are combating — Follow The Money, Follow The Money, Follow The Money!
But what if…
We, THE PEOPLE take it away from them? Where will they be? Hmm… What if WE, THE PEOPLE did TWO simple things?
1: In terms of Wall Street (the oligarchs) — Shut Them Down! Pull your money out of all the major banks and put it in Credit Unions and small banks that serve the local neighborhood. Or even put it under your mattress. But in the end cash won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on. So I advise you even stronger to buy GOLD and SILVER while the prices are relatively low. At the end of the year the price is expected to reach about $3000 an OUNCE! At that point, our system collapses.
But that’s not my real solution. That’s just a smart thing to do.
Here’s the ultimate solution: EVERYONE — (A): take an unscheduled day off work (e.g., a Wednesday). (B): Don’t BUY anything that day. That is the key.
You don’t need to go into the streets to protest. You don’t have to get hit, or tear-gassed, or shot by cops and the military.
Stay home with your family. Read a book. Visit friends. Have a picnic. Whatever.
Those two actions will SHUT DOWN THE U.S. We will hit the oligarchs where it will hurt them most: in their wallets — on their balance sheets. Do to them what they have and are doing to us. It will work.
If one day off doesn’t get their attention properly, then take two days or three days, or more. Whatever it takes. They need us more than we need them! In fact they need TWO things to survive and prosper: Producers and Consumers, i.e., Workers and Buyers. Without either they perish. I think it’s time to put them in a COMA.
2: VOTE! While you still can. But more importantly, vote wisely. Don’t vote for the lesser of the Evils. They are still both Evil. Vote for the good guy/girl. Which means no more voting for Republicans OR Democrats!
Republicans have and always will be the Party of the Rich. And Democrats have been bought by the rich.
How dare you complain about all the assholes YOU voted into office? And if you didn’t vote — then all the assholes you allowed others to vote into office! They’re not the problem… YOU are! You put them there to do their business.
In 1992 I voted for Ross Perot. In 2008 I voted for Ralph Nader. Not because I thought they WOULD win, but because I thought they SHOULD win. This time I’m looking at Independents like Rocky Anderson. But that’s me. You make your own wise choices.
One of the best things you can do is stop voting businessmen and lawyers into office! They do not represent your/our interests.
And NOT voting is not an option. Allowing others to make decisions FOR you is the same as allowing others to make decisions AGAINST you, which they will if given half a chance.
So, don’t complain about the bad times we’re living through. But remember, things are going to get worse before they get WORSER! And I truly believe that many people are not going to survive as long as we continue on our paths of ignorance, fear, apathy and arrogance.
